Through the years as the recycling program develops, we try to inform our residents of what we are recycling and how to dispose of the material. The following information and guidelines will help you and the Borough in your recycling efforts.
What to do with trash, recyclables & hazardous waste.
Garbage / Trash is any non-recyclable waste material generated from the kitchen. Containers shall not exceed 32 gallons in capacity or 50lbs in weight.
Mixed Paper - (ALL RECYCLABLE) Residents will include all CLEAN paper, boxes, corrugated cardboard, newspapers, magazines, phone books and only clean PIZZA boxes (no oily residue), in a secure curb side container or string tie in bundles no higher that 12 inches, and or place in secure containers. Remember on WINDY DAYS, SECURE THE RECYCLABLES from blowing all over the street!
E-Waste – curbside scheduled pick-up on Wednesday's or take to BCUA. Call the DPW at 201 460-3038.
Stumps/Logs (NO DIRT), Concrete/Brick/Stone – Pre-scheduled collection, call the DPW for appointment @ 201 460-3038.
Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW) www.bcua.org - check for disposal schedule and all proper disposal procedures. Or call 201 807-5825. Items such as Paints, Anti-freeze, Motor Oil & Filters, Pesticides, Fluorescent lights, Mercury switches, Drain cleaners, Bug sprays, and Batteries. All types, Propane Cylinders, Varnishes, Glues and Gasoline. Please check the web site…
Heavy Trash – These are items other than food trash and collected on your trash day. The equivalent of 3 - 30 gallon barrels or 3 bulky items like furniture, toilet bowls, etc.
E-Waste – Electronics - Computers, TV/VCR, Laptops, Printers, Speakers, Cell Phones, DVD, Cell Phones, Keyboards, Monitors, Printers, & Speakers. Disposal access is at the BCUAi n Moonachie, 5 days a week! Check the web site for information (www.bcua.org) or call 201 807-5825 or call the DPW.
Overnight Trucks - For Boro residents looking to clean out their houses, garages. NO CONTRACTORS or Contractor's debris. Call the DPW at 460-3038 to qualify and reserve a date. The fee is $100 for weekday and $200 for weekend.
Batteries - Household batteries may dropped off at Borough Hall. Use the Donaldson Avenue entrance.
Christmas Trees – Dec & Jan on Vegetation Day. (DO NOT PLACE IN PLASTIC BAGS)
Vegetative Waste - The bi-weekly collections will include grass, yard waste and brush. Brush must be bundled in 4 foot lengths and all loose material must be placed in open containers or biodegradable paper bags. (DO NOT PLACE IN PLASTIC BAGS).
Leaves – Bag or place in containers to be picked up bi-weekly with vegetation. Curbside leaf piles are to be placed into the street the day prior to your no parking day. The leaves will be pushed to the corners and picked up in a timely fashion. THE CURBSIDE LEAF COLLETION IS OCT 1st thru DEC 31st. AT NO OTHER TIME OF THE YEAR are any YARD GRASS OR DEBRIS TO BE PLACED IN THE STREET….NEVER! This is the law per the State of NJ’s Storm Water Act.
