 Welcome Fall!
Hopefully all of the hot, humid, wet and windy weather is behind us! It is time to begin our fall activities.
First, I would like to take a moment to thank all of the wonderful Borough employees and Rutherford volunteers whose hard work and efforts made the difficult days following Hurricane Irene bearable: firefighters, police, DPW workers, EMT, and the Recreation crew. Seeing all of the activities now taking place on Tryon and Memorial Field makes it hard to believe that a few short weeks ago four feet of water covered the fields!
Just a quick reminder that while most of the Memorial Field complex is open for group and individual recreational use, the Memorial Picnic Area, Diamond #4 and Leisure Lane behind the picnic area is still closed until further notice. Call the Recreation Department (201) 460-3015 for further updates.
We have started our extended hours once again. We will now be open on Wednesday evenings until 7 p.m. So, if you are unable to visit our office during our daytime hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) please stop by on Wednesday nights.
Parents, bring your ear plugs to the Annual Touch a Truck event on Sunday, September 25 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the parking lot at Memorial Field! Rain or shine, police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, street sweepers and other big wheel favorites will be there! You should be too!
Soccer begins on Saturday, September 17 and Cross Country runners begin their treks on Tuesday, September 20. Registration is now open for wrestling and basketball which start immediately following Thanksgiving.
Ghosts and goblins, princesses and pirates are invited to strut their stuff at the Annual Halloween Ragamuffin Parade on Saturday, October 29. It is a SPOOOKTACULAR event!
Recreation also has tickets available for Radio City Music Hall's Annual Christmas Spectacular on Tuesday, December 14 at 8 p.m. The bus will leave Memorial Field promptly at 4:30 p.m. You must purchase your ticket in person at the Recreation Department. This event always sells out so don't miss this wonderful holiday trip!
With so much going on, you won't want to miss a second! See you on the fields, around the track, at the parade...where the FUN BEGINS...that is where Recreation will be!
