The Board of Aesthetic Review of Rutherford was created in 1967 by Mayor Justin Tokarski. Members are appointed by the Mayor. The 14 member board makes recommendations to the Mayor and Council about the areas of the Borough that need improvement in an effort to keep Rutherford beautiful.
Rutherford Board of Aesthetic Review observes Arbor day on the last Friday of April, as it was started over 100 years by J. Sterling Morton, by planting a tree in different parts of the Borough. A reading of the poem by Alfred Joyce Kilmer "TREES" follows the tradition.
Every year in the month of May, the Board presents a plaque to the most improved business and to the most improved residence in the Borough.
The Board meets the second Monday of each month at 7:30pm. Meetings are held at the Rutherford Borough Hall. For more information please contact President Barbara Bennett at barbarab725@hotmail.com Members of the Board for 2008:

ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION
The Rutherford Board of Aesthetic Review recently planted two weeping cherry trees in front of Borough Hall.
The trees were donated by the Bennett and Moore families of Rutherford. The ceremony had the traditional recital of the poem “TREES” by Joyce Kilmer led by former BAR chairperson, Helen Mathies and Rutherford Police Captain George Egbert. One of the trees was planted in Memory of Henry Fletcher, whose wife Marie Fletcher has been a member of the BAR for over 10 years. Henry Fletcher was a very active coach for Little League, Babe Ruth and Recreation sports. The BAR would like to thank the Mayor, Council Members, Police Dept., the Department of Pubic Works. (especially Mike Schmeding & Joe Partyka) and the Community for their support. The Board of Aesthetic Review Committee meets on the 2nd Monday evening of the month in Borough Hall.
