G - GARBAGE is any non-recyclable waste material generated from the kitchen. Garbage shall be in plastic bags and placed in 32 gal metal or rigid plastic containers with handles. No loose garbage in any container will be picked up. Containers shall not exceed 32 gallons in capacity and 50lbs in weight. HEAVY TRASH IS ON YOUR G - GARBAGE DAY. These are household material such as furniture, rugs, television sets, radios, stereos, toys, clothes, mattresses, irons, vacuum cleaners, all wood products. Only three (3) items of heavy trash are now collected with household garbage. The equivalent of three (3) 32-gallon containers/barrels or three (3) bulky items such as furniture may be included with regular household trash/garbage day.
HEAVY TRASH IS NOT - REFRIGERANTS, ROCKS, DIRT, CONCRETE, TILES, PATIO BLOCKS, TOP SOIL, ELECTRONICS - (TELEVISIONS, RADIOS/STEREOS, COMPUTERS), DRY CLOTHES, SMALL KITCHEN APPLIANCES - (METAL MIXERS, IRONS, POTS, VACUUMS). REVIEW THE REST OF THE SCHEDULE FOR PROPER DISPOSAL OR CALL THE DPW AT 201 460-3038.
**G - NO heavy trash will be collected when there is only one household garbage pickup per week due to holidays. NO metal with heavy trash. Call the DPW with any questions at 201 460-3038.
M - Metal Products & White Goods Metal products and white goods such as stoves, washing machines, dryers, barbecue grills, microwave ovens, dishwashers are collected every other Wednesday. NO REFRIGERANTS such as air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators, and de-humidifiers, with metal pickup. These items will be collected by appointment. Please call (201) 460-3038 for pick-up. Doors must be removed on refrigerators and freezers.
P - PAPER includes all newspapers, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, magazines, junk mail, office paper, books, cereal boxes, milk and juice cartons, telephone books, game boards, brown paper bags and pizza boxes. These items must be bundled and tied and placed at the curbside. DO NOT PLACE THE ABOVE IN PLASTIC BAGS.
R - RECYCLABLES includes commingled glass, aluminum cans, tin cans and plastic bottles. Place at curbside in open metal or rigid plastic containers with handles not to exceed 32-gallons in capacity. DO NOT PLACE IN PLASTIC BAGS. Also do not include window glass, mirrors, ceramics, etc. These items must be put out with your (G) household trash in an open container or cardboard box clearly marked as "glass".
V - VEGETATION includes grass, hedge clippings, garden plants, vines, small twigs and leaves which must be placed in metal or rigid plastic containers with handles or biodegradable paper bags. NO VEGETATION WILL BE PICKED UP IF IT IS PLACED IN PLASTIC BAGS. Brush and tree limbs must be placed at the curb in 4-foot length tied in bundles. During November and December only, leaves and grass cuttings can be blown to the road curbside for pickup on a non-scheduled, but ongoing basis. All other vegetation waste (hedge clippings, small limbs and twigs) must still be bundled and left at curbside. IMPORTANT: THE FOLLOWING DO NOT HAVE CALENDAR SYMBOLS
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS paint thinners, turpentine, anti-freeze, motor oil, solvent and oil-based paint is not accepted at any time. Cans with quantities of oil-based paint, liquid propane gas tanks and batteries will not be collected or accepted by the DPW. Call the Bergen County Utilities Authority (BCUA) Hazardous Waste Hotline (201) 807-5825 for information on hazardous materials disposal.
HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES can be dropped off at Borough Hall in the battery container in the main hallway @ the Donaldson Ave. entrance
NO CONTRACTOR'S DEBRIS such as leaves, sheet rock, concrete, bricks, patio blocks, tile, dirt or top-soil will be collected or accepted by the DPW. All contractors NO EXCEPTIONS, such as home repair, masons, landscapers, carpet installers, tree service, etc… performing work or services must remove all debris and/or material resulting from their work.
