The Rutherford Health Department recently conducted one of two Influenza Vaccination Programs for residents and were assisted with the program by seven students from St. Mary High School that volunteered their time.

The Health Department is planning on conducting a second vaccination clinic for residents when the remainder of the influenza vaccine is received. Call 201-460-3023 for updated information. It is anticipated that an adequate supply of flu vaccine will be forth coming.

Emergency Medical Services Week
Rutherford Mayor Bernadette P. McPherson is pictured above signing a Proclamation on behalf of the Rutherford First Aid Ambulance Corps, Inc., naming the week of May 19 through May 25, 2002 as "Emergency Medical Services Week." Corps President Brian Hagal, left and Squad Captain William Gumbman are pictured above at the signing of the Proclamation which also encourages residents to volunteer their services at the Ambulance Corps by being an Emergency Medical Technician. FREE Child Health Conference
The Rutherford Health Department reminds residents that it offers a FREE Child Health Conference, which enables infants and small children to receive immunizations against eleven (11) childhood illnesses, evaluation of growth and development, counseling and health education. The Rutherford Health Department recently held an Adult Eye Exam Screening Program for residents. Rabies Vaccination Program
The Rutherford Health Department recently held a Rabies Vaccination Program for Borough residents, with 212 dogs and cats being vaccinated against rabies. Dental Screening
The Rutherford Health Department recently assisted the Rutherford Child Care Center in conducting a Dental Screening for its students. Skin Cancer Screening Program
The Rutherford Health Department recently held a Skin Cancer Screening Program with 55 residents participating. Dr. Manuel R. Free Pheumovax Vaccination
The Rutherford Health Department reminds residents 65 years of age and older, who are covered under Medicare Part B and do not belong to an HMO, that they can still receive for FREE the Pneumovax (Pneumonia) Vaccination at the Health Department. Pneumococcal Disease is the leading cause of death of a vaccine preventable disease. It accounts for more than 40,000 deaths per year in the United States.
