FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RUTHERFORD The Borough has started installing the alternate side parking signs throughout the community.

"Under the new ordinance, all streets within the Borough will be posted for alternate side parking restrictions. Depending on the section of the Borough, the restrictions will be either on Mondays and Tuesdays on the individual sides of the street or on Thursdays and Fridays. Three-hour parking restrictions will apply in order to permit the street sweeper to cover the entire route," announced Mayor Bernadette P. McPherson.

"We want to effectively and efficiently clean the streets. Because of the increase in the number of vehicles parked on the roadway, the only way to accomplish this was to enact this ordinance. In addition to the street cleaning program, the restrictions will allow for more efficient removal of leaves during the fall season as well as other maintenance efforts," the Mayor continued.

"With the installation of the required number of new sign posts and placement of signs on these and existing posts, it is anticipated that the work will be completed by mid to late April. Before enforcement of the ordinance commences, we will make our residents aware through the web site and other measures. The Police Department will be issuing warning notices to alert motorists of the restrictions," Sergeant Thomas Farrell, Police Department Traffic Coordinator, added.
