| RUTHERFORD - Borough officials have announced that the name of Lincoln Park will remain unchanged.
"Earlier in the year Mayor McPherson appointed a committee, chaired by Alan Note, with representatives from the Borough Council, Veteran's Organizations and the public to investigate renaming Lincoln Park to Veteran's Park," announced Councilmember Ray Frazier.
"This study was initiated since most of the Borough's war memorials are located in the park and local veterans maintain these areas on an almost daily basis. It was only fitting to consider the issue. After discussions by the committee at several meetings a survey was conducted in the local weekly papers. A very high percentage of the respondents favored keeping the existing name," Councilmember Frazier continued.
"Located at the gateway to our revitalized downtown business district, this park is viewed by thousands of motorists and pedestrians daily. Although it has always been a pleasant environment enjoyed by many residents, there is a need to undertake improvements and consider adding amenities to the park," Mayor McPherson stated.
"To begin the process of identifying the park's needs I have formed a committee which will represent a cross section of the community," Mayor Bernadette P. McPherson announced. "Although we presently have $58,000 in grant funds to replace the sidewalks and make other improvements, there will probably be further enhancements we will wish to consider. We also want to ensure that the tributes to our veterans remain a main focal point of the park setting", the Mayor added.
"This is the most actively used of our passive parks and we wish to make it as attractive and pleasant a setting as possible for residents and visitors," Mayor McPherson concluded.
