6th Annual Post Card Show - The Community Chest of Rutherford, a not for profit organizaton will sponsor the 6th Annual Post Card Show & Sale Sunday, April 13 at Kip Center, 55 Kip Avenue from 10:00 am to 2 pm. Admission is $2.00, children accompanied by an adult are free.

RUTHERFORD SUMMER CONCERT SERIES -- The Borough of Rutherford's Summer Concert Series consists of six (6) concerts held on Thursdays in Rutherford's Lincoln Park during June and July at 7:3oPM. The concerts attract approximately 250-350 people per night from Rutherford and surrounding communities.
THE TASTE OF RUTHERFORD The Taste of Rutherford is an evening block party on Wed. June 25th, where everyone is invited to enjoy the many "Tastes" of Rutherford's fine food establishments & enjoy a special wine tasting. With Park Avenue closed, and restaurants & entertainment out on the street, this event is a definite crowd pleaser that thousands enjoy each year.
INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION - 4th of July -- The Borough's Annual Independence Day Celebration is held on the Fourth of July every year adjacent to Tryon Stadium in Memorial Park. Over the past few years, this event has grown from our Felician College sponsored fireworks display to a "Family Fun Night Out", which attracts close to 7000 people in just 2-3 hours. We feature fun foods, a popular band, and face painters. Earlier in the day the 77th annual Rutherford Baby Parade will be held with prizes awarded.
HAMBLETONIAN PARADE & FESTIVAL - July 26, 2008 -- Horses, horses, and more horses. Rutherford is once again partnering with the Hambletonian Society and the Meadowlands Racetrack to host the kick off parade and festival for Hambletonian week. July 26, 2008 is the day where drivers, sulkies, horses, and more are on parade, in NJ's largest horse parade. For the 6th year, this event will bring visitors from all over the world to northern New Jersey,
MOVIES IN THE PARK -- During three Tuesday nights in August, the Borough of Rutherford hosts outdoor Movies in Rutherford's Lincoln Park. The movies attract approximately 250-350 people per night from Rutherford.
RUTHERFORD NATIONAL NIGHT OUT -- This is a festive evening in early August, when towns across the nation join hands with law enforcement in a show of solidarity. The goal is to form a community partnership to address crime. The event gives citizens an opportunity to personally meet and interact with members of their local police department. The lasting relationships that are developed benefit the entire community. Fun-filled family activities are part of the event, including, music with DJ, a movie under the stars, rides, popcorn, water and other give-aways. Held in Rutherford's Lincoln Park, the event includes the participation of the Rutherford Police Dept., Fire Department, Ambulance Corps, Health Department, Library and other local groups.
RUTHERFORD LABOR DAY STREET FAIR- -- This high profile event is the largest and longest running street fair in New Jersey - attracting over 25,000 people every year - rain or shine. In fact, it's become "the place to be" for politicians to meet their constituents, with everyone from the Governor to US Senators here. This event is annually covered by major network TV stations.
Now in its 33rd year, the Rutherford Labor Day Street Fair is attended by a wide range of key vendors and consumers. Over 150 high-end antiques and collectibles dealers are supported by a cross section of craft vendors, entertainment, a juried art show and fabulous food. It's an all-day festival of shopping and fun, free concerts, where families and more serious buyers linger for many hours. It's the place to be on Labor Day in the New Jersey/New York Metropolitan area.
OCTOBERFEST -- Welcome Fall with our traditional Oktoberfest celebration. On October 17, 2008 the Williams Plaza, in the heart of downtown Rutherford, will be the site of the 1st Rutherford Oktoberfest. Festival goers will experience a bit of Germany with a beer tasting tent, traditional German music, food, dancing and other entertainment.
SAFE NIGHT OUT- October 30 -- Safe Night Out provides Children in Rutherford with a safe environment to celebrate mischief night, October 30*. Some of the attractions that are sponsored each year are kiddy rides, free food and beverages, carnival games and a dance with a DJ in the Elks Lodge. The Rutherford Fire Department display equipment. Local police departments participate by sending their special units such as horse mounted officers.
All of the activities are free, thanks to the generous support of local businesses and community groups.
HOLIDAY FESTIVAL
The Rutherford Holiday Festival is a joyous kick off to the winter holiday season. Activities in the downtown area will take place on the Friday night & Saturday morning after Thanksgiving.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has announced that the Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Remediation, Upgrade & Closure Fund is available to both homeowners and commercial property owners for funding remediation of contamination caused by leaking underground storage tanks and, in some instances, for the proactive removal and replacement of non-leaking storage tanks. Reduced Rates for Rutherford Residents at the Secaucus Pool
The Mayor and Council of the Borough of Rutherford approved an interlocal agreement with the Township of Secaucus that will provide reduced rates for Rutherford residents at the Secaucus Pool. According to Mayor McPherson, "I received an e-mail from a resident, Melissa McHugh, bringing the possibility to my attention and contacted Secaucus about it. Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell has always demonstrated a willingness and initiative to share services among the towns in the Meadowlands District and this is a fine example of that. The Secaucus Pool is very popular among Rutherford residents and we are grateful for this cost savings offered to us.
Interlocal rates for Rutherford residents are as follows:
- Individual under 21: $240.75
- Individual over 21 : $294.25
- Household of two: 438.70
- Family Plan (additional per person over 'Household of two' plan): $74.90
- Senior Individual: $171.20
- Senior Household of Two: $240.75

EXPERIENCE:
Directors must have at least 3-years experience as a Counselor with the Rutherford Recreation Department or comparable experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION
- Supervision of all campers
- Maintain daily activities for counselors and groups
- Attendance of counselors and campers
- Monitor arts and crafts projects
- Encourage and maintain counselor and camper enthusiasm
- Enforce camp rules, regulations, and policies
- Coordinate and participate in special events
- Supervise all trips
- Remain at the park after camp and trips until ALL children have left
- Ensure clean up of facility (especially after lunch)
- Carry out the requests of the Superintendent of Recreation

PAYDAYS: Directors will receive three paychecks during the course of the six weeks.
EVALUATION: Each Director will receive two evaluations throughout the course of the camp. An evaluation will be given after the first three weeks of camp and a final written evaluation will be conducted at the conclusion of camp (to be completed by the Recreation Department). It is also the responsibility of the Site Directors to evaluate each counselor and CIT at their respective camp. If after the first evaluation (after the first three weeks of camp), a site director does not receive a satisfactory evaluation, a decision could be made to terminate the employee. At the conclusion of camp, a satisfactory evaluation is mandatory in order to be considered for employment in the future within the Recreation Department.

Seeking organized, responsive, non-partisan, dedicated professional with high integrity to Serve as the chief administrative officer. The administrator is responsible for the overseeing of a 25M+ budget, about 150 FTE, 50 PTE, 4 Collective bargaining units and 6 departments, including, finance, building & public utilities, recreation, public works, police and volunteer fire. Must have 5+ years' municipal government management experience with excellent oral, written and computer skills, with strong financial management background. It is strongly desired that the candidate also be a certified purchasing agent or be able to attain that certification with minimal course work. Proven ability to obtain and manage grants. Bachelor's Degree required, Master degree in an appropriate discipline preferred.
Experience must demonstrate good project management skills with effective follow up and follow through.

JOB DEFINITION
Under direction of the Superintendent of Recreation, enforces ordinances, regulations & policies regarding the use of the park by the public
Performs a variety of routine maintenance tasks within the parks
REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid NJ Driver's License
Ability to deal with the public with courtesy, fairness and firmness and to enforce regulations tactfully.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Empty all garbage cans on ball field areas, playground areas, picnic areas and on Monona and Darwin Avenues
- Maintain dugout areas, tennis court area, all playground areas
- Maintain all areas in Tryon Stadium, including bleachers, track and field and empty all garbage cans in and around the stadium
- Turn lights on and off at Tryon Stadium according to Field Schedule usage
(typically, the lights are turned on before day lights savings time at 5:30 p.m. and after day light savings at approximately 8:00 p.m.) and lights are turned off according to the daily field schedule (usually no later than 10:00 p.m.)
- Inspect both men's and women's bathrooms throughout assigned shift
- Inspect park facilities and report any damaged or broken equipment
- Enforce tennis badge, ball field and park permit policies
- Enforce parking regulations
- Enforce dog ordinance (No pets allowed in the parks)
- Set up and take down corner flags on Tryon Field for all soccer matches
- Open and lock girls softball bathrooms during the softball season located at Diamond #5
